Causal effective field theories

چکیده

Physical principles such as unitarity, causality, and locality can constrain the space of consistent effective field theories (EFTs) by imposing two-sided bounds on allowed values Wilson coefficients. In this paper, we consider that arise from requirement low-energy causality alone, without appealing to any assumptions about UV physics. We focus shift-symmetric theories, propagation around both a homogeneous spherically-symmetric background. find namely there are no resolvable time advances within regime validity EFT, produces in agreement with compact positivity constraints previously obtained $2 \rightarrow 2$ scattering amplitude dispersion relations using full crossing symmetry.

Effective Field Theories

These lectures introduce some of the basic ideas of effective field theories. The topics discussed include: relevant and irrelevant operators and scaling, renormalization in effective field theories, decoupling of heavy particles, power counting, and naive dimensional analysis. Effective Lagrangians are used to study the ∆S = 2 weak interactions and chiral perturbation theory.

Effective Field Theories

An effective field theory (EFT) of a physical system is a theory of the dynamics of the system at energies small compared to a given cutoff. For some systems, low-energy states with respect to this cutoff are effectively independent of ("decoupled from") states at high energies. Hence one may study the low-energy sector of the theory without the need for a detailed description of the high-energ...

Interpreting Effective Field Theories

An effective field theory (EFT) is a theory of the dynamics of a physical system at energies small compared to a given cut-off. Low-energy states with respect to this cut-off are effectively independent of states at high energies; hence one may study the low-energy dynamics without the need for a detailed description of the high-energy dynamics. Many authors have suggested that, because of the ...
